Children's Literacy Center
The Children’s Literacy Center, based in Colorado Springs, offers one-to-one tutoring for students reading below grade level at NO COST TO FAMILIES!
We match a child with a community volunteer trained in the Peak Reader® Program. Tutoring sessions last one hour, twice a week, for up to 12 weeks.
Approximately 27 percent of third grade students in Colorado fail to meet state reading standards. This translates to thousands of children being at risk of failing in school. Children’s Literacy Center works with the community, schools, and families, providing a cost-effective literacy program that shrinks the gap between success and failure.
CLC’s program results in a 95 percent success rate! Program participants develop a solid reading foundation essential to success now and in the future. Tutors give each child the confidence they need to succeed.
The Monument Hill Kiwanisprovide ongoings support for CLC’s community tutoring site located at the Pikes Peak Library District’s Monument Branch. Funds from this grant allow CLC to increase volunteer training and recruitment as well as provide additional curriculum so that CLC can accommodate the 10 children who are currently on our waiting list while continuing to support our existing efforts."
